Master’s degree: Economics and Journalism
Practically reflected economic journalism
The Economics and Journalism Master’s programme offers a combination of the practically-orientated journalism studies programme and macroeconomics. Students are able to choose between two study streams with differing admission requirements. The journalism study unit is somewhat different, while the macroeconomics study unit is identical.
Profile 1: Economics and economic policy journalism
This profile is aimed at macroeconomics graduates who have not completed a journalism traineeship (Volontariat) and who wish to deepen their macroeconomic and economic policy knowledge, while at the same time acquiring professional economic-policy journalism skills.
Master’s graduates will be able to work within economic policy trade journalism or in other areas of macroeconomics where communication of economical topics to non-professionals is required. The capability to communicate economical content comprehensibly and via different media channels is highly important across classical professional economic fields - particularly public relations for economic-political oriented institutions, public authorities and associations, chambers of industry and commerce, economic research institutes, financial, credit and insurance sectors.
The journalism course is offered by the Institute for Journalism. It covers all media and is well recognised for its practical relevance. The economics module of the Master’s degree allows students to participate in all economics Master’s courses at TU Dortmund and Ruhr University Bochum.
Profile 2: Economic-policy quality journalism
This study stream is aimed at macroeconomics graduates who have also completed a journalism traineeship (Volontariat).
The course is offered by the Institute for Journalism. It covers all media and is well recognised for its practical relevance. In the economics module of the Master’s degree, students can participate in all economics Master’s courses at TU Dortmund and Ruhr University Bochum.
